06 Feb Scoop from the Coop – Week of Feb 6th
- By the time you read this week’s Scoop, the Elementary Tournament will be finished. I have many observations in my time around sports:
Sometimes in the heat of action, the idea of “protecting kids” goes out the window for adults’ own personal satisfaction. All the kids want to do is play and compete. The children see the actions of their parents and then reflect those actions throughout their lives. If you have children in sports, please always carry yourself with high character. There is never any circumstance that you should berate an official, or get kicked out of a game. This can become difficult when there is not a large crowd and your voice carries and can be easily identified. I can understand that sometimes officiating can be frustrating. It is a very difficult job. Very often, (especially in recreation games) the officials are just 17 or 18 years old. Officials do not have a vendetta against a certain team. They do not get paid enough and have to deal with so much nonsense. (threats in person and on social media) If you know someone that complains, hand them an application to officiate. Improper actions against officials or opposing teams will not be tolerated.
- Progress reports will be sent home with students on Monday, February 13.
- After school Credit Recovery is continuing. If you know of a student that could benefit, please let their counselor know.
- Our Chronic Absenteeism rates for the first 100 days of school have been released. 34.08% of our students have missed more than 10% of the school year. It is going to take a group effort to reduce this number. If you recall, Chronic Absenteeism is one of our accountability measures.
- Please remind your students that drive that they MUST have a CCHS hangtag to park on campus and that the lower parking lot is for DE Students ONLY.

Old but Relevant Information
- Please remind your Seniors that there will not be a “crunch week” right before graduation this year.
- Graduation date and time has officially been set. It will be Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM.
- Food City Bucks-It is still a thing. Food city shoppers can link the school of their choice via the FC app. This is an easy way for us to receive money. I encourage you to do this and to also encourage the families of your students to do the same. Schools must be re-linked each year. In the app go to MY ACCOUNT, and then to MY SCHOOL BUCKS, choose the school you want to ling receipts to.
- Please continue to encourage your students to go through the cafeteria line.
- We now have dedicated times for students to report to the library with Chromebook issues. The times are from 8:00-8:30, 11:39-12:10. Of course emergencies can be taken care of on an as needed basis. Hopefully, this will create order out of the chaos that are Chromebooks.
