Unprecendented Flooding

The Cocke County School District was pleased to announce the re-opening of our schools on Wednesday, October 16th following the  unprecedented flooding that occurred on September 27th from Hurricane Helene.  Areas near the French Broad, Pigeon, and Nolichucky Rivers were severely impacted, and we understand the challenges many of our families are facing.  The school district has been working tirelessly with county and state officials to assess the damage and implement necessary repairs to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for our students and staff.  We are fortunate that no damage has occurred to any of our school district facilities. Newport Utilities has lifted the boil advisory for water, ensuring that our schools have access to safe drinking water. Please note that bus routes may be altered due to road closures or damage in affected areas.

We understand that this has been a difficult time, and we are committed to providing support to our students and families.  Social and emotional support services will be available for students and staff who may be impacted by the flood. Additionally, we kindly request that all school parents and guardians who have lost their homes or who are displaced or doubled up due to the flood please complete the Cocke County School District Student Residency Questionnaire. This information will help us determine eligibility for additional resources and services to support your student. The questionnaire is located under the website’s Attendance Department tab – Attendance Forms.  A Spanish version of the questionnaire can be found here. Alternatively you can obtain a paper copy from the principal at your child’s school.

Your participation is crucial in helping us address the needs of our students during this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Assisting affected students and families will remain a top priority for Cocke County Schools.  We are grateful for those outside our community who have offered support, resources and hope during this challenging time.
