Job Goal: Engage students in learning the standards of first level high school math. Develop strong mentor relationships with students. Deliver focused well-planned instruction to empower students to succeed in subsequent math classes. Prepare students for success in college and career preparation programs in high school and in attaining their own post-secondary goals. Collaborate with members of the department in developing a successful Algebra I program, selecting strategies based on students’ individual abilities and needs. SUMMARY
The Student Support Specialist promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The Student Support Specialist contributes to the development of a healthy, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success and by implementing effective intervention strategies. The Student Support Specialist (S3) provides case management services and serves as liaison between school, family and community resources. The S3 conforms to the standards established by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) code of ethics. The major function of the S3 job description supports the mission for Moving Mountains Achieving Success in Cocke County Schools.

Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate school periodicals, professional journals, policies, procedures, governmental regulations, legal documents, and research based texts. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, policies, procedure documents, and statistical reports specific to this directorate. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the Board of Education, groups of employees, parents, other educators, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have demonstrated mastery of mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to analyze, synthesize, and apply complicated mathematical concepts and information to maximize district academic performance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to maximize use of IT aids. Ability to understand all aspects of District business and instructional operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the District’s community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely and to create excellent written communications. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
