FERPA

In 1974, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (Buckley Amendment) Public Law 93-380, 438 was passed to ensure confidentiality of school records. FERPA requires that the Cocke County School System with certain exceptions, obtain the written consent of parents prior to disclosure of personally identifiable information from a child’s educational records. Parents should be encouraged to carefully review the FERPA notice which is distributed for parent signature at each school annually.
